Vaping Epidemic Hits Home

The coalition has recently received many requests for presentations covering topics related to the teen vaping epidemic that has affected schools in Marathon, Wood, and Portage counties. If there is a school or organization that works with youth that would like training and technical assistance for parents or staff on this topic, contact Jenna Flynn.

Wisconsin Rapids FACT Doing Great Work

On Saturday, October 20th, members of Wisconsin Rapids FACT participated in a cigarette butt cleanup event. In just one small area, the group was able to gather more than a gallon of cigarette butts. In addition, they found other products like chewing tobacco and e-cigarettes. This activity highlights how smoking can affect the environment and acknowledges the prevalence of tobacco use in this community. The work of the FACT group emphasizes educational advocacy about the dangers of tobacco use.

The Great American Smokeout | Thursday, November 15th

Most of us know someone or maybe you are the person who has been affected by the devastating impact that a smoking addiction can have. For more than 40 years, the American Cancer Society has hosted the Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday of November.  It is an opportunity for smokers to commit to healthy, smoke-free lives. The Great American Smokeout provides an opportunity for individuals, community groups, businesses, health care providers, and others to encourage people to use the date to make a plan to quit. The event challenges people to stop smoking and helps people learn about the many tools they can use to help them quit and stay quit.
